Loosing
Weight Prior To Weight Loss Surgery
Some insurance companies will
require you to follow a 6-12 month doctor supervised diet before
approving payment for weight loss surgery. In addition, some
surgeons will require a certain amount of weight to be lost
before they will perform the surgery. They have various reasons
for requiring this pre-surgical weight loss. It may be to see if
the patient is committed to the surgery or it could be to bring
the patient's weight down to a safer range to perform the
surgery.
My personal weight loss surgeon
required me to lose 20 pounds before he would perform the
surgery to make sure I was committed to loosing weight and
keeping it off for the rest of my life.

Most doctors recommend a minimum of
60
grams of protein consumed every day to maintain the health
of the patient.

Insurance
Coverage For Weight loss Surgery
Some
insurance companies will require you to follow a 6-12 month
doctor supervised diet before approving to pay for weight
loss surgery. However, many major insurance companies do pay
at least part or all of the medical costs for weight loss
surgery since morbid obesity causes so many other
life-threatening conditions and illnesses such as heart
disease, high blood pressure and diabetes. In addition, many
morbidly obese patients are unable to perform simple,
everyday tasks and exercises which greatly reduces their
quality of life.

Eating For Health, Eating For Life
Yes, you
will go through a thorough orientation by a trained
dietician who will give you explicit answers to all your
questions about what and how much food you will be able to
eat after surgery. It is imperative that you follow your
doctor's instructions for what to eat in the first few weeks
after surgery to avoid nausea or problems that can develop
from having gastric bypass surgery. Many weight loss surgery
patients attend monthly support groups for a long time after
they have achieved their optimal weight loss goal. Support
groups are instrumental in keeping patients abreast of the
latest protein rich foods, supplements and any questions
they may have that arise long after they have had successful
weight loss surgery and have reached their desired goals.

Will I
See Noticeable Weight Loss Right
Away?
Yes! If
you follow your doctor and your dietician's instructions for
what to eat and how much you will experience dramatic and
rapid weight loss. If you combine Eating properly with
exercise you will lose even faster!

Will I
Be Hungry?
This is
probably the number one reason most morbidly obese patients
do not have long term success with diets. They have to
experience hunger often and this painful hunger is usually
what causes most diets to fail with morbidly obese people.
When you have weight loss surgery you no longer experience
hunger pains! This is the "tool" you surgeon gives you to
help you successfully lose weight. It is then up to the
individual as to how much they loose and if they keep the
weight off for life. Most patients are very successful at
loosing weight because of the very fact that they are not
hungry and are unable to consume large amounts o food.

Am I
Glad I Had Weight Loss Surgery?
Yes, yes,
yes! It has changed my life in more positive ways than I can
list here. I enjoy not only looking healthier but I now feel
better and have more energy than ever. I no longer dread
having to buy clothes or weigh in at the doctor's office. I
can sit in a normal chair in a restaurant for the first time
without worrying if it will support me. I no longer suffer
the stares and discrimination that morbidly obese suffer on
a daily basis. Humans naturally gravitate to other
attractive humans. This may not seem fair, but it is a fact
of human nature. I feel like for the first time in my life I
am worthy and self-confident. I could never go back now to
being the person I was before weight loss surgery!
